Anthony G. Johnson, D.D.S., P.C.

Dr_Johnson_2013.jpgDr. Anthony G. Johnson has been practicing pediatric dentistry since 1998. In 2003, he opened Johnson Pediatric Dentistry, and has been providing optimal dental care to children in Bowie, Hyattsville and the surrounding areas ever since. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology from S.U.N.Y. College at New Paltz and received his Doctorate from the University of Maryland, Baltimore College of Dental Surgery. Following dental school, "Dr. J." completed a two-year residency in Pediatric Dentistry at Lutheran Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York.

To stay up-to-date on the latest advancements in the field of pediatric dentistry, Dr. Johnson maintains active membership in numerous prestigious professional organizations such as the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, the American Dental Association, the National Dental Association, the Maryland State Dental Association and the Advanced Dental Specialists of Southern Maryland Study Club.

Outside the office, Dr. Johnson is a sports enthusiast, an avid music fan, a voracious reader and an active member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. He is a native of South Jamaica Queens, New York, and he enjoys spending his free time with family and friends.

Paula L. Coates DDS., MS

DrCoates-Headshot Dr. Paula L. Coates is a Board Certified Pediatric Dentist and Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry.
Born in Washington, D.C. and reared in Riverdale, MD (Prince George’s County), Dr. Coates attended Duke University upon graduating from Bladensburg High School. She earned her dental degree in 2000 from Meharry Medical College School of Dentistry in Nashville, TN.

While in dental school, Dr. Coates served in numerous leadership roles and was elected as Miss Meharry Medical College in 1998, with a feature in
Ebony Magazine.  Dr. Coates received multiple awards and recognitions including the National Dean’s List as well as induction into the Omicron Omicron Chapter of The Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society.

A love of working with children led Dr. Coates to continue her studies at the University of Illinois at Chicago where she completed specialty training in Pediatric Dentistry in 2002.  During her time there, she gained a great deal of experience working with children of all ages, especially those with special health care needs.  During her residency, Dr. Coates worked on and later earned her Masters of Science degree.  Prior to relocating to the DMV in 2016, she was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatric Dentistry at her alma mater, Meharry Medical College School of Dentistry.   Since 2002, Dr. Coates has provided oral health care to children in the states of Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Tennessee and Virginia.

In her spare time, Dr. Coates volunteers many hours with organized dental/health and community service organizations. She has served in leadership positions on the local, state and national levels of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and National Dental Association. She was the first African American Woman elected to serve as a member of the Board of Trustees of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (2016-2019). She maintains active memberships in several Dental Organizations and Alumni Associations. In addition, Dr. Coates is an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated and The Arlington (VA) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated.

Her passions include spending time with her family, mentoring youth and future dentists, reading, dancing, watching/participating in sports activities, the performing arts, arts and crafts, shopping and traveling.
